Step-by-Step Installation
Install the NetherSX2 APK
Download or build the NetherSX2-patched APK, enable 'Install unknown apps' for your browser or file manager, and install it. Grant storage permission on first launch.
Add your PS2 BIOS
Copy your dumped BIOS file (e.g. SCPH-70012.bin) to your phone, then in the emulator go to Settings → BIOS → Import BIOS and select the file. The BIOS must come from a console you own.
Load your game library
Place your .iso or .chd game dumps in a folder, then use Add Game Directory so titles appear with cover art in the game list. CHD files save 30-50% storage with no performance cost.
Set the renderer to Vulkan
Open Settings → Graphics and choose the Vulkan renderer with 2x upscale as a starting point. Vulkan is fastest on Adreno GPUs; drop to 1x resolution if a game stutters.
Tune per-game settings
For demanding titles, open the game's properties and apply the settings from our compatibility database — underclocking presets and safe hacks are listed per game.
Next Steps
Games still slow? Check the exact per-title settings in the compatibility database, or make sure your BIOS is set up correctly with the BIOS configuration guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does NetherSX2 setup take?
About 15 minutes if you already have a BIOS dump and game files: 2 minutes to install the APK, 3 to import the BIOS, and the rest to load games and set the Vulkan renderer.
What file formats does the emulator accept for games?
ISO and CHD are the recommended formats. CHD is a lossless compressed format that saves significant space; convert ISOs with the chdman tool.
Why does the emulator say 'No BIOS found'?
The BIOS file was not imported or is a bad dump. Re-import via Settings → BIOS and confirm the file is roughly 4MB with a name like SCPH-XXXXX.bin. See the BIOS configuration guide for dumping instructions.
Which graphics backend is fastest on Android?
Vulkan on virtually every modern device. Only fall back to OpenGL on older Mali GPUs with broken Vulkan drivers.
