AetherSX2 APK

Late 1.2, before the 1.3 stabilisation

AetherSX2 v1.2-2637 APK Download

2637 is the better of the two 1.2 builds we host and the one to try first if you have come this far down the archive. It shows AetherSX2 as it was just before the 1.3 stabilisation work — fast on modest hardware, rougher around the edges on anything demanding.

This archive APK stays available for people who need this exact build. The pages Google should index for version choice are the older versions hub, the current v1.5-4248 download, and the Mali-friendly v1.5-3668 build.

Should You Use v1.2-2637? Real-World Notes

v1.2-2637 is a late build of the 1.2 line and represents the emulator as it looked before the 1.3 stabilisation work. Users who ran it at the time remember it as fast and workable on modest hardware, and that is still true today: it is one of the lightest AetherSX2 builds you can install on an older phone.

As a 1.2 build it predates a lot of the game-specific fixes that came later in 2023, so expect a smaller list of games running exactly right, and expect to spend more time in per-game settings for demanding titles. For lighter 2D games and older-generation RPGs, that trade-off is often invisible.

Use it if 1.3-2874 does not run smoothly on your device, or if you want the closest thing to how AetherSX2 felt in its earlier public releases — it is an honest snapshot of the project mid-development.

What to Know Before Installing v1.2-2637

  • Released within days of v1.2-2632, so the two are almost the same build. Pick this one unless you have a specific reason not to.
  • Per-game settings do more of the work at this point in the project's history than they do on later builds — expect to configure individual titles rather than rely on sensible defaults.

Recommended Settings for v1.2-2637

RendererOpenGL
ResolutionNative (1x) only
  • Budget time for per-game configuration. This build predates most of the automatic per-title handling that later versions accumulated, so the defaults do less for you.
  • Stick to lighter titles. 2D games and earlier-generation RPGs are what this era of the emulator handles convincingly.
  • If a game refuses to boot, move up a line rather than deeper into settings — a missing compatibility fix is not something a menu option recovers.

Installing v1.2-2637

A standard single-file APK: enable "Install unknown apps" for your browser or file manager, tap the download, and approve the install.

Coming down from a newer release: v1.3-2874 or anything above it: means uninstalling that first, because Android refuses to install an older version over a newer one. Back up your memory cards before you uninstall. Those survive the move between builds; save states do not, so save inside the game rather than relying on a state you made on v1.3-2874.

The rest of setup is the same for every AetherSX2 release, so we publish it once rather than repeating it here: see the illustrated 12-step install and BIOS walkthrough, or go straight to the PS2 BIOS guide if that is the part you are stuck on. Once the app boots, apply our baseline graphics tuning before raising upscaling.

If v1.2-2637 Isn't Right for You

Skip this build if: Everyday play on any reasonably modern phone. This is an old-hardware option and an archival one; the 1.5 line is better at almost everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 1.2 line differ from 1.3 in practice?

1.3 brought the stabilisation work that 1.2 had not had yet. The practical effect is fewer rough edges and a longer list of games behaving correctly, at some cost in how light the emulator is to run. If 1.3-2874 runs well on your phone, there is very little reason to be on 1.2. If it does not, this is a reasonable next thing to test.

Should I install v1.2-2637 or v1.2-2632?

2637 first. The two builds are days apart and functionally near-identical, and 2637 is the later of them. 2632 exists on this site for one purpose: a small number of games regressed between the two, so if a specific title fails here it is worth trying the earlier build before concluding the 1.2 line cannot run it.

Are save states from this build compatible with anything else?

No, and the gap is wider here than between adjacent modern builds. Save states capture the emulator's internal state and are effectively tied to the version that wrote them, so a state from a 1.5 build will not load on 1.2 and vice versa. Save inside the game to a memory card if you intend to move between builds — memory cards are ordinary files and travel fine.
